Antarctica are currently working on the winning scheme for the Cunninghame Arm bridge in Lakes Entrance.
(see our news section)
The new bridge is simple and direct- it uses similar rhythms and forms as the existing footbridge which it will replace.
This exaggerated memory of the existing bridge is then combined with an open floating ‘bowl’ at its centre, a theatrical place for mooring, fishing, and swimming, or just dip your toes in the water. The bowl’s curved surface cradles the new activities that take place there and forms a kind of amphitheatre, close to the water and partly under the bridge.
Its floating surface keeps it close to the water and in a dynamic relationship with the bridge. It will form a public space in the centre of a beautiful body of water, and an architectural space from which to experience the natural environment at close quarters.
