Lakes Entrance Footbridge Win 18.04.07

East Gippsland Mayor, Cr Mandy Urie, announced on Monday that Antarctica Group Pty Ltd had won the design competition for a footbridge over the Cunninghame Arm in Lakes Entrance.

The new bridge uses the same rhythms, and forms as the existing bridge. This memory of the existing bridge is then combined with an open ‘bowl’ at its centre, an accessible place for mooring, fishing, and swimming – or simply a place to sit and dip one’s toes in the water. The bowl’s curved surface cradles the new activities that take place upon it. Parts of the platform submerge and emerge from the water with the changing of the tides.

The mayor said, “it is a bold and innovative design that will emerge as a structure that will encourage visitors to Lakes Entrance just to see it… The ability to interact with the bridge by using its plate for a variety of activities will be a great drawcard.”
