About the office

Antarctica is an architectural company based in Melbourne, and carrying out work across Australia and New Zealand. Our architecture is informed by broader design interests and expertise, including urban design, web and multimedia design, interiors & furniture, and art practice. The combined experience of the office ranges from significant major projects in Melbourne, to countless small projects, and international works. At the moment it is used on everything from bridges to little houses.
Our office promotes collaboration across design disciplines and with others. Our active involvement in academic work at RMIT University grows from the view that the best architecture is informed by research, experimentation and reflection. We disseminate our ideas broadly– we write for journals, give lectures and teach. Our projects are frequently published and exhibited. We want our architecture to participate in a larger environment and be affected by it as deeply as it can. We aim to build for diverse situations, places and budgets – that includes engaging with new forms of communication, with sensitive natural environments, with new types of cities, and with ordinary life.
Our architecture and design ranges across many building types, scales and locations, and each time is approached with freshness and rigour. We are currently working on projects in Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia and New Zealand.
